a musing ames

a miss amused by a musing mind

Born Amy Lee Sheppard, Ames is the preferred diminutive used by my family and friends alike for as long as I can remember. A Midwest native (born in Illinois, raised in Michigan),

I currently live in Charlottesville, Virginia. With a Cuban mother and a mixed-American father, I enjoy traversing between cultures and languages abroad, in my community, and within my own family.

I hold a bachelors degree in History from the University of Michigan Residential College, and I am enrolled as a student in the University of Virginia School of Law.

If you sneak up on me when I have some downtime, you’ll likely find me reading, writing, listening to NPR, or scouring news pages online.

Youth and children’s ministry are close to my heart. I spent four years working with children and pre-teens through FLAG (Fun Learning About God) Camp International, an experience that took me to 11 states and Honduras. I became involved with campus ministries during my undergrad through Adventist Students for Christ at UM and CAMPUS (Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students), and I hope to continue with it even when I’m a grown-up. I am also currently involved with the Generation of Youth for Christ (GYC).

Whether I become a judge, journalist, or something else, I hope even now to be an argument in favor of the gospel–a loving and lovable Christian.
